LIMA, Peru (AP) - A former army officer considered a strong contender for the Peruvian presidency lost ground in a poll released Thursday, falling into a dead heat with two rivals just days ahead of Sunday's vote.
Ollanta Humala, an independent whose populist stance has alarmed Peru's political establishment, was supported by 26 percent of respondents, a 6 percentage-point decline from an earlier survey, according to the independent pollster CPI.
Lourdes Flores, a pro-business former congresswoman, had 28 percent support, while former President President Alan Garcia, running on a center-left ticket, had 25 percent backing.
