BERLIN (AP) - Several shareholders of DaimlerChrysler AG demanded Wednesday that the automaker close its Smart GmbH unit, which hasn't posted a profit since it was formed in 1998.
Chief executive Dieter Zetsche, however, insisted the compact car maker remains viable.
"What makes you so sure that the Smart division will be profitable in 2007? Why don't you take the chance and close down the Smart model line completely?" DWS Investment GmbH funds manager Susan Levermann asked at the annual shareholders meeting.
