KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - Pilot error was to blame for the helicopter crash that killed Sudan's vice president and set off protests in the country's capital and southern cities, an investigation concluded Tuesday.
The death last July of John Garang, a former rebel leader who became Sudan's vice president under a peace deal, led to the killing of at least 130 people during protests in Sudan's capital and in southern cities raising fears that the pact that ended a 21-year civil war could collapse.
After the crash in southern Sudan, the Sudanese government and Garang's Sudan People's Liberation Movement asked Uganda, Kenya, the U.S., Russia and the United Nations to help in the investigation.
