HONIARA, Solomon Islands (AP) - Australia said Friday it would double the number of troops it has sent to its troubled South Pacific neighbor as government and private sector workers began returning to offices in this riot-scarred Solomon Islands capital.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard's announcement that Canberra will send another 110 troops to the Solomons came after talks with leaders of peacekeeping forces there.
"In these situations it's better to have more than less," Howard told the Southern Cross Broadcasting radio network.
