JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - The most sensational trial since the end of apartheid closed Tuesday with defense demands for former Deputy President Jacob Zuma to be acquitted of charges he raped an HIV-positive family friend.
Judge Willem van der Merwe said he would deliver his verdict Monday. It will be broadcast live on television and radio.
Testimony in the trial has gripped the nation, focusing attention on such sensitive issues as rape, AIDS and political divisions within the governing African National Congress.
