Euronext Rallies Against Merger Proposal

PARIS (AP) - European stock market operator Euronext SA urged shareholders Wednesday not to back a proposal that pressures the company into a merger with Frankfurt-based Deutsche Boerse AG.

In an e-mailed statement, the company said that a merger with its rival is "a serious option," but that it does not want to restrict its flexibility amid a round of consolidation in the world's largest stock markets.

Euronext said it is in active discussions with Deutsche Boerse and other parties, but that it is no longer in merger talks with the London Stock Exchange PLC.
