OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Aubrey Huff and Julio Lugo made their much-awaited returns from the disabled list Friday, both back in the lineup for Tampa Bay's series opener against the Oakland Athletics.
Lugo and Huff were activated late Thursday night and Lugo was leading off with Huff in the cleanup spot to start the three-game series with the A's. Lugo had been sidelined since April 6 with a strained muscle in his left side sustained on opening day at Baltimore. Huff, coming off four straight seasons with 20 or more home runs, strained his left knee in a collision with Nick Green on a foul ball April 11 against the Orioles on the way to his first career stint on the DL.
"When a guy's been sitting out as long as they have, you're going to get something whether it's tonight, tomorrow night or the third night," manager Joe Maddon said. "Huffy might be further along. Huffy had a more miraculous recovery."
