Portland Dominates Craft Brewing Boom

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Well into the 1970s, in a simpler Oregon, the bluer bloods of the tavern trade bellied up to order "Eastern" beer — Bud or Miller — and drew sideways looks from the loggers, college sweepings and others there assembled.

The rest stuck with a "Western," beer, the regional stuff, and there usually was just one brand on tap. No hemming here. No hawing.

But in the 1980s an explosion of "craft" brewing, or microbrewing in the state changed that.
