LUANDA, Angola (AP) - Italian energy company ENI has paid $902 million for a controlling stake in an Angolan offshore oil field which is believed to hold 1.5 billion barrels of oil, authorities said.
Officials said late Tuesday that ENI would take a 35 percent stake and lead a consortium of six companies, including France's Total and Brazil's Petrobras, which are to develop a deepwater field called Bloc 15.
Angolan state oil company Sonangol awarded the concession, which drew bids from 14 companies, the company's head of negotiations Carlos Saturnino told state-run Radio Nacional de Angola.
