NEW YORK (AP) - The owner of the Daily News has pledged $100 million toward a new research facility at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the largest donation by an individual in the center's history.
Mortimer B. Zuckerman, a real estate developer who also owns the weekly magazine U.S. News & World Report, sits on Sloan-Kettering's board and is a former board president of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
His donation will be used to pay for a previously planned $503 million research facility designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP in collaboration with the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership. The first phase of the project, a 23-story laboratory building, opens this month.
