NEW YORK (AP) - Mets right-hander Victor Zambrano had surgery Monday to replace a torn ligament in his pitching elbow, an injury that will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Zambrano was hurt May 6, when he took himself out of a game against the Atlanta Braves after striking out Andruw Jones. He was diagnosed with a torn flexor muscle.
During the operation, Mets team physician Dr. David Altchek repaired the tendon, removed bone spurs and replaced the ligament.
