TRENTON N.J. (AP) - New York Yankees right-hander Carl Pavano had another setback in his rehabilitation when he was forced to leave a rehab start with the Double-A Trenton Thunder on Wednesday because of soreness in his right arm.
Pavano retired the side in order on nine pitches in the first inning against Portland and then did not return. He declined to meet with reporters after the game, which Trenton won 7-3.
Rich Monteleone, a special pitching instructor for the Yankees, said the former All-Star was "frustrated" by having to leave early. It was Pavano's third start since bruising his buttocks while fielding a bunt in spring training, and he was coming off a strong outing for the Thunder on Friday.
