BALTIMORE (AP) - Invasor made himself right at home on American soil, charging down the stretch to overtake favorite Wanderin Boy and win the Grade I Pimlico Special by 1 1/4 lengths Friday.
Invasor, the 2005 Uruguayan horse of the year, survived an objection by West Virginia and won in his North America debut. Only five horses participated in the $500,000 race.
"I didn't think we were going to get there, but at the eighth-pole, I knew we had a chance," said trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, who will saddle Like Now in the Preakness on Saturday. "This was a very big win for our stable."
