Japan Stocks Open Lower, Dollar Up

TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks started lower Tuesday following U.S. stock losses overnight. The dollar was up against the yen.

The Nikkei 225 index lost 135.82 points, or 0.86 percent, to 15,722.05 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shortly after the open.

Prices were lower broadly following the overnight fall on Wall Street. Banks including Mizuho Financial Group Inc. led early losses.
