TOKYO (AP) - Japan's trade surplus with the U.S. rose to its highest level in 20 years in April despite a wider-than-expected decline in the nation's global trade gap, the government said Thursday.
The trade surplus with the U.S. or the margin by which exports exceed imports increased 26.9 percent on year to 803.2 billion yen ($7.12 billion) in April, the highest since the 847.9 billion yen surplus racked up in April 1986, Finance Ministry data showed.
The result marked the 15th consecutive month of increases in the surplus with the U.S., the ministry said.
