ATLANTA (AP) - Expanding Martin Luther King Jr.'s international dream for nonviolence, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is planning conflict resolution centers in Europe and the Middle East.
The Atlanta-based organization which King helped found in 1957 is partnering with Mississippi Valley State University and will offer technical assistance and training for police officers, teachers, community leaders and government officials seeking nonviolent ways to solve problems.
The SCLC opened a conflict resolution center in Israel early last year. A center in Turin, Italy, is scheduled to open later this summer. Mississippi Valley State will offer a curriculum in conflict resolution this fall.
