NEW YORK (AP) - The two Australian gold miners who were trapped underground for two weeks said in their first U.S. interview Friday that they were determined to walk out of the mine, despite the advice of paramedics.
Brant Webb, 37, and Todd Russell, 34, emerged from the mine in Tasmania state on May 9 to cheers from hundreds of supporters, looking remarkably robust and punching the air vigorously.
"We told (the rescuers) from day one, 'We're walking out of here,' and they said, 'No, we're making the decision,'" Russell said on ABC's "Good Morning America."
