Tuesday, June 06, 2006 8:08:52 PM

Japanese women walk past a stock indicator in Tokyo Tuesday, June 6, 2006. Japanese stocks fell Tuesday morning following a plunge on Wall Street overnight. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index dropped 281.75 points to 15,386.56 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange at the early afternoon session. (AP Photo/Katsumi Kasahara)TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks were lower just after Wednesday's open, falling on broad-based selling and another decline in U.S. stocks. The dollar edged up against the yen and euro.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index shed 99.81 points, or 0.65 percent, to 15,285.05 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange early Wednesday. The index dropped 283.45 points, or 1.81 percent, to finish at 15,384.86 points the previous day.

The Nikkei's early drop came on both the earlier decline in U.S. stocks and continued net sell orders from foreign brokerages placed before the start of trade.
