WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A woman who was stabbed to death in a mall parking garage was targeted by a homeless convicted rapist who was planning a murder motivated by his "hatred of white people," a prosecutor said.
Phillip Grant, 44, who is black, is accused in the June 29 stabbing death of Concetta Russo-Carriero, 56.
"The defendant's perfect victim had just arrived," said Assistant District Attorney Timothy Ward during opening statements Monday at Grant's trial. "Petite, sandy-haired, female and white."
