Bar Owners Ask Judge to Delay Smoking Ban

DENVER (AP) - Colorado bar owners asked a federal judge Friday to block a statewide smoking ban from taking effect next week while they press their lawsuit seeking to overturn the measure.

In a packed courtroom, their attorneys argued taverns would suffer irreparable harm, losing customers they have cultivated for generations.

The state countered that opponents had plenty of opportunities to make their case before the Legislature approved the ban in March.
