(AP Photo/John Bompengo)KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Police in Congo's capital fired tear gas Tuesday to break up stone-throwing demonstrators who were alleging electoral irregularities ahead of the country's first presidential vote in four decades.

Doctors said at least two people were hospitalized with injuries during the demonstration, which drew about 400 people in the capital, Kinshasa. An AP photographer saw police beating one man with a club and severed fingers lay in the road from an apparent explosion.

Five opposition candidates participated in the demonstration, demanding more transparency in the organization of the July 30 election and protesting the alleged printing of about 7 million more ballots than the number of registered voters.
