LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - Police investigating the murder of a Nigerian politician arrested a state senator and the victim's campaign manager Friday as suspects in his death.
Funsho Williams was found strangled in his home Thursday with his hands and legs tied. A potential gubernatorial candidate, he had vowed to wrest control of wealthy Lagos, Nigeria's most populous state, from the opposition Alliance for Democracy party in April elections.
Williams defected from the opposition three years ago to join President Olusegun Obasanjo's party. The senator arrested in connection with his murder, former Works Minister Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe, was his rival for the party's nomination for the governorship. Their supporters clashed at a campaign rally Sunday.
