NEW YORK (AP) - Dejected prosecutors got a big lift Friday when a judge reinstated racketeering charges accusing John "Junior" Gotti of continuing to benefit from mob activities even after he claims to have quit organized crime.
U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin tossed out the charges earlier in the week, saying the terms of a guilty plea by Gotti in 1999 to a different set of racketeering charges barred the new ones.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Victor Hou vigorously contested Scheindlin's ruling Thursday, leading the judge to reconsider her decision and change her mind overnight.
