WARRENDALE, Pa. (AP) - Teen apparel and accessories retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc. said Tuesday that second-quarter earnings rose 24 percent to beat Wall Street expectations on strong sales gains.
For the quarter ended July 29, net income rose to $72.1 million, or 47 cents per share, from $58 million, or 37 cents per share, a year ago. The latest quarter includes a penny per share of stock option expense.
Total sales increased 17 percent to $602.3 million from $515.9 million last year. Sales at stores open at least one year, or same-store sales, increased 10 percent following a 21 percent jump last year.
