Japan Stocks Extend Gains; Dollar Lower

(AP Photo/Katsumi Kasahara)TOKYO (AP) - Japanese stocks climbed higher early Wednesday extending a near three-month high from the previous session. The U.S. dollar was lower against the yen.

The Nikkei 225 index added 78.06 points, or 0.49 percent, to finish the morning session at 16,149.42 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The broader Topix index, which includes all shares on the exchange's first section, rose 10.23 points, or 0.63 percent, to 1,639.96 points.

On Monday, the Nikkei gained 1.61 percent to its highest close since May 19, on renewed confidence in Japan's economic recovery and overnight gains on Wall Street.
