No Cameras at Duke Lacrosse Hearings

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - The judge overseeing the rape trial of three Duke University lacrosse players plans to bar cameras and other electronic media from pretrial hearings, a court official said Friday.

The decision was reached after an hourlong meeting of attorneys on both sides and Superior Court Judge W. Osmond Smith III, who is to preside over the criminal case.

Trial court administrator Kathy Shuart said the judge was preparing to bar all cameras and electronic recording devices from the hearings. No decision had been reached about whether they would also be barred from the trial, she said.
