TORONTO (AP) - Rookie Shaun Marcum had something to prove after getting shelled in his last start. Marcum rebounded from the worst start of his young career with six strong innings, leading the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.
Marcum (2-3), who allowed nine runs in the 15-0 loss to Baltimore on Aug. 19, won for the first time in six games. He allowed just one run and seven hits, while striking out four and walking two.
"I wanted to come out and show the guys the last start is behind me. I wanted to come out and prove I can pitch at this level and for this team," Marcum said. "Confidence is a big thing. I made some good pitches early."
