NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - U.S. Sen. Barack Obama did his best to highlight reasons for optimism in what might be Africa's largest slum during his brief stop there Sunday.
He visited a savings project that lets residents of Kibera pool their money, and he talked to children participating in AIDS prevention programs that stress abstinence.
"Everybody in Kibera needs the same opportunities to go to school, to start businesses, to have enough to eat, to have decent clothes," he said over a megaphone as hundreds of cheering people surrounded him.
