MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Islamic militants who seized much of Somalia's south sent delegates to Sudan Thursday to discuss the chaotic African nation's future with its struggling U.N.-backed transitional government.
In talks aimed as easing tensions, the two sides will discuss the militants getting seats in the parliament and Cabinet, and rewriting the charter, said Sheikh Dahir Geelle, a spokesman for the militants, known as the Islamic courts.
A 17-member delegation of the Islamic courts group, which controls much of Somalia's south, left Mogadishu aboard a plane chartered for them by the Arab League, which is sponsoring the talks.
