ZANZIBAR, Tanzania (AP) - Burundi's government and the country's last rebel group signed a permanent cease-fire Thursday as the central African nation emerges from 12 years of civil war.
The agreement was signed by President Pierre Nkurunziza and Agathon Rwasa, leader of the rebel National Liberation Force, said Dieno Khama, a South African mediator.
"We are moved by their efforts. It's something to be proud of," Khama told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from the ceremony in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
