TOKYO (AP) - The Bank of Japan kept its monetary policy steady Friday, leaving a key interest rate unchanged amid speculation about when the nation's central bank will next tighten credit as the economy recovers.
The bank board members' decision, in line with market expectations, was unanimous at the end of a two-day meeting to keep the benchmark short-term interest rate the same at 0.25 percent.
In July, the Bank of Japan ended its zero interest rate policy and raised the unsecured overnight call loan rate to 0.25 percent, the first rate hike since August 2000.
