NEW YORK (AP) - The Bush administration plans to name a former top diplomat as a special envoy for Sudan, where three years of fighting in the Darfur region have killed more than 200,000 people.
President Bush plans to announce Tuesday that former U.S. Agency for International Development chief Andrew Natsios will be the U.S. point man in ending the fighting, a U.S. official said. The United States helped broker a truce last year in a long-running civil conflict between Sudan's southern and northern regions.
Sens. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., and Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., told reporters about the selection Monday. The White House declined to comment.
