Firm Recalls Male Performance Supplement

Wednesday, September 20, 2006 10:08:24 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) - A product touted on the Internet as a natural alternative to Viagra has been recalled because it contains an active ingredient similar to that of the prescription impotence drug.

Nasutra LLC said Wednesday it is recalling all Nasutra-brand dietary supplements marketed as treatments to enhance male sexual performance. Food and Food and Drug Administration tests showed the supplements contained acetildenafil, which is similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. That impotence drug made by Pfizer Inc. is sold only by prescription in the United States.

Acetildenafil can interact with ingredients in other prescription drugs and lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.
