FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) - The former head of the interrogation center at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison, charged with mistreating detainees and interfering with an investigation, is set appear to at a military hearing, military officials said Friday.
Lt. Col. Steven Jordan, the highest-ranking officer at Abu Ghraib to face criminal charges, will have his Article 32 hearing often referred to as the military equivalent of a grand jury investigation on Monday at Fort George G. Meade, about 20 miles northeast of Washington, the Military District of Washington said.
Jordan was charged in April with 12 counts of violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice for seven separate offenses, including cruelty and maltreatment, fraud, disobeying a superior officer, interfering with an investigation, making false official statements, dereliction of duty and failure to obey a regulation.
