N'DJAMENA, Chad (AP) - Rebels briefly seized a town in eastern Chad, sparking fears they would launch a new attack on the capital, government officials said Tuesday.
Rebels entered the town of Am Timan, 360 miles from the capital N'Djamena, on Monday after the government said its forces repelled an attack on two towns near the border with Sudan's troubled Darfur region.
The rebels voluntarily left the town later in the day, said government spokesman Hourmadji Moussa Doumgor. It wasn't immediately clear why the rebels left.
