PARIS (AP) - French customs agents were combing through a North Korean ship and its cargo of cement on Thursday, the first declared inspection under U.N. sanctions imposed following the communist nation's internationally condemned nuclear test.
France said no illegal cargo had yet been found but the "complete inspection" of the Am Nok Gang, in a port on the Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte, signaled its determination to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
Ministry officials said they were unaware of any other ship inspections having been carried out by France within the U.N. sanctions framework.
