By PESI FONUA

New Zealand Police Superintendent Brett England, left, Australian Police Superintendent Shane Austin and Tongan Police Deputy Commander patrol in central Nuku'alofa, Tonga,Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006. Rebuilding the burned-out business center of Tonga's capital after a riot last week would take five years and up to US$75 million (euro58 million), a senior official said Tuesday. (AP Photo/NZPA, Ross Setford) NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga (AP) - Australian and New Zealand troops fanned out across Tonga's riot-scarred capital on Wednesday, setting up check points and carrying out patrols after securing the airport and other key areas, commanders said.

The forces expanded their role at the request of Tongan authorities, whose security forces were overwhelmed during rioting, looting and arson last week in which at least six people died and about 80 percent of businesses in Nuku'alofa were burned.

About 150 Australian and New Zealand security forces have been deployed at the airport and other key locations since Saturday to keep order.
