KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Congolese army forces surrounded the smoldering Supreme Court building Wednesday, a day after street fighting among supporters of the loser of last month's presidential runoff left about a third of the building burned.
The blaze delayed the court's hearing of vote-fraud charges in the landmark balloting and could postpone plans to swear in the announced winner, interim President Joseph Kabila, on Dec. 10.
Azarias Ruberwa, one of four vice presidents in Congo's transitional government, said the deadline for a ruling on the fraud accusations will be extended and the proceedings will move to a different building. He did not say when it would restart.
