N'DJAMENA, Chad (AP) - Chad extended a state of emergency Friday for six months in the country's eastern provinces, where ethnic clashes have killed as many as 400 people and raised fears that Sudan's Darfur conflict is spilling across the border.
The National Assembly voted 77-0, with six abstentions, to extend last week's 10-day emergency declaration.
Prime Minister Pascal Yoadimnadji said more time was necessary "to restore peace and reconciliation" in Chad, an impoverished, landlocked country in central Africa.
