BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) - Rebels said Monday they have captured another town near Central African Republic's restive Chad-Sudan borderlands and that their forces are aiming for the country's southern capital. Government officials only confirmed there was fighting.
Rebel spokesman Diego Albator Yao said by telephone that the rebels had gained control of Ndele after an hour-long battle with government forces that left at least three rebels dead. He didn't say when the fighting occurred.
"We are now on our way to the capital," Yao said, but added that they were awaiting instructions from higher-ups before advancing further to Bangui some 300 miles south of Ndele.
