SUVA, Fiji (AP) - Fiji's prime minister said Tuesday he will fly to New Zealand for emergency talks with the country's military commander a potential breakthrough in a standoff that has pushed the country to the brink of a coup.
On Monday, Australia's foreign minister said a takeover by the armed forces in Fiji appeared imminent.
Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said he would make "a special mission to meet directly" with armed forces chief Commodore Frank Bainimarama in Wellington, New Zealand on Wednesday.
