BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Commission cleared the way for MAN AG's hostile $13.7 billion offer to take over Sweden's Scania AB on Wednesday, saying the deal that would create Europe's biggest truckmaker raises no antitrust problems.
It did not set any conditions to the deal, which Scania's board and major shareholder Investor AB have rebuffed as too low.
Germany's MAN said last week it was giving Scania's shareholders more time to accept its bid, extending the acceptance period from Dec. 11 to the end of January after the EU delayed its deadline to rule on the deal.
