MANILA, Philippines (AP) - The Philippine military went on nationwide alert Monday, wary of possible guerrilla attacks on the eve of the 38th anniversary of the founding of the country's Communist Party.
"If they do have plans, our soldiers are ready," said deputy military spokesman Capt. Ramon Zagala.
The government declared a unilateral holiday cease-fire for Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year's. But exiled Communist Party founder Jose Maria Sison dismissed the cease fire as psychological warfare.
