DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The family of a Florida sheriff killed during a charity school bus race has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the race track.
The lawsuit claims New Smyrna Speedway was negligent when it allowed Lake County Sheriff Chris Daniels to race in a bus with unsafe equipment and with no training or safety guidelines.
Filed Wednesday on behalf of his family, including his widow and her three children, the suit seeks monetary damages of at least $15,000 from Hart Land & Cattle Co., which owns the track. Terry Roberts, the speedway's general manager, declined to comment.
