Construction workers work on the Washington National Cathedral's new parking garage project on the cathedral's grounds in Washington on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006. Despite the construction former President Gerald Ford's funeral will be held at the Cathedral on Tuesday. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington National Cathedral, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday for former President Gerald Ford, is among Washington's most majestic structures — a massive, limestone edifice that towers over the capital while gracefully reaching skyward.

It also happens to be a sprawling construction site. Workers are finishing an underground parking garage, and the cathedral's front yard is full of sand, mud and equipment.

Completion of the project is two months away, but there's not much workers can do to beautify the site in time for the Ford funeral, said Ed Green, senior project manager for James G. Davis Construction Corp.
