WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Rep. William Broomfield, 84, collapsed during President Gerald R. Ford's Capitol funeral ceremony Saturday night.
The Michigan Republican, who served in the House from 1957 to 1993, part of the time with Ford, was laid out on the floor of the Rotunda and Sen. Bill Frist, a physician, went to his aid. Broomfield later was taken out in a wheelchair.
"Is he OK?" someone whispered to Frist when he returned to the ceremony a few minutes later. First nodded yes and took his seat.
