NEW ORLEANS (AP) - JaMarcus Russell hooked up with Early Doucet on a pair of long passes, both setting up touchdowns as No. 4 LSU took a 21-14 lead over Notre Dame through the first half of the Sugar Bowl on Wednesday night.
After Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis gambled and lost with a failed fake punt on the first Irish possession, Russell found Doucet for 31-yards on LSU's first play from scrimmage, setting up Keiland Williams' 3-yard touchdown run.
Doucet's 58-yard reception to the Notre Dame 5 set up Russell's 5-yard scoring run inside the final two minutes of the half.
