Barone Won't Hold Back Running Grizzlies

Thursday, January 04, 2007 12:12:00 AM

Memphis Grizzlies' Rudy Gay, left, tries to make a steal from Golden State Warriors' Mike Dunleavy during the second quarter of NBA basketball action Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, in Memphis, Tenn. (AP Photo/Lance Murphey) MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - As long as the Memphis Grizzlies want to run, interim coach Tony Barone isn't going to bog them down with too many set plays.

The racehorse Grizzlies used a season-high 33 points from Mike Miller, and Pau Gasol's 24 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday night to beat the Golden State Warriors 144-135.

"We got tired halfway through the third quarter," Barone said. "I saw some eyes starting to cross in the huddle. So I asked them: 'OK, would you like me to start calling plays from here on in?' They said no, so I said: 'OK, start running again.' There's no magic in coaching."
