DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (AP) - The Tanzanian diplomat appointed to the No. 2 job at the United Nations said Saturday that the global body faces enormous tasks.
The world has many peace and security issues that need to be dealt with urgently, Tanzania's Foreign Minister Asha-Rose Migiro told The Associated Press.
"Being an African, I have first hand experience to be able to understand the situation facing Africa and developing countries in general. I will be able to use this experience to contribute in effecting developmental changes at the global level," Migiro said by phone from Maseru, Lesotho, where she is attending a meeting of the regional group, the Southern African Development Community.
