TOKYO (AP) - A Japanese lawmaker said Saturday an official he met in North Korea told him Pyongyang wanted to resume nuclear disarmament talks right after the communist country's financial discussions with Washington later this month.
Veteran lawmaker Taku Yamasaki, passing through Beijing after a five-day visit to the North Korean capital, said the official also told him a second possible nuclear test by the North would depend on U.S. actions.
Yamasaki visited North Korea in an attempt to break an impasse in the six-nation talks on the North's nuclear disarmament. He said he met with a number of North Korean officials on the visit including Song Il Ho, the North Korean ambassador in charge of diplomatic normalization talks with Japan.
